Purvanchal is a geographical region of north-central India located on the eastern edge of Uttar Pradesh. It is a very fertile region bounded by Nepal in the north, Bihar in the east, the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh in the south and the Awadh region of Uttar Pradesh in the west.

Purvanchal has mainly three parts – Eastern Awadhi region in the west, Western-Bhojpuri region in the east and Nepal region in the north. This is an example of Indian culture and resonates on the field of great life and Mokshadayini Ganga ji. Purvanchal is the most densely populated and multi-talented green region in the world. Apart from Hindi, Bhojpuri, Awadhi and Bundelkhandi are also spoken in this region.

Mangal Pandey, the hero of the first freedom struggle of 1857, was a native of Ballia of this region. Bhadohi and Mirzapur districts of Purvanchal hold their prominent place not only in Asia but in the whole world in the manufacture of carpets and rugs. Banarasi Paan is world famous and along with it the Kalakand here is also famous. Child labor is in full swing in Varanasi. Banarasi silk is famous all over the world for its fineness and softness. The intricate designs and zari work on Banarasi silk sarees add to the beauty of the saree. Jaunpur district is situated in the north-west part of Varanasi division. Its land area extends between 24.240N to 26.120N latitude and 82.70E and 83.50E longitude. Gomti and Sai are the main rivers. Besides these, there are small rivers like Varuna, Pili and Mayur.

Bhadohi is a district in Uttar Pradesh. It is famous for carpet manufacturing. Bhadohi district, formed in 1996 from Varanasi, the main district of Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh, is known by the common people as ‘Carpet City’. Touching the borders of Allahabad, Jaunpur, Varanasi, Mirzapur, this district is very famous in the world due to its carpet industry.

Mirzapur is considered a very important district from the point of view of tourism. The natural beauty and religious atmosphere of this place attracts the attention of many people. Vindhyachal Dham located in Mirzapur is one of the major pilgrimage centers of India. Apart from this, the district is famous for Sita Kund, Lal Bhairav ​​Temple, Moti Talab, Tanda Falls, Windham Falls, Tarakeswar Mahadev, Maha Trikon, Shiv Pur, Chunar Fort, Gurudwara Guru Da Bagh and Rameshwar etc.

Ghazipur is the old district and city of Purvanchal. Its ancient name was Gadhipuri, which was changed in about 1330 by a Muslim ruler named Sayyid Masud Ghazi. Ghazipur, established by the British in 1820, is famous for the largest opium factory in the world. There is also a handloom and perfume industry here.

Kushinagar Mahatma Buddha’s Nirvana took place here. There are many beautiful Buddhist temples here. For this reason, it is also an international tourist destination where mainly Buddhist pilgrims from all over the world come to visit.

Maharajganj is a district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, situated near the Indo-Nepal border. Its district headquarter is located in the city of Maharajganj. Earlier this place was known as Karapath. This district is situated in the south of Nepal, north of Gorakhpur district, west of Kushinagar district and east of Siddharth Nagar and Sant Kabir Nagar districts. It is also a very important place from the historical point of view.

Basti district is situated to the west of Sant Kabir Nagar district and to the east of Gonda. It is also the seventh largest district of Uttar Pradesh in terms of area. In ancient times the settlement was known as ‘Kaushal’.

Sant Kabir Nagar, the world famous temple of Lord Shiva Shri Tameshwarnath Dham, famous poet Rangpal Hariharpur of Awadhi, Nirvana place of world famous Saint Kabir, Magahar and Bakhir Pakshi Vihar Lake, Hansar etc. are among the main places here. Ghaghra, Rapti, Aami and Kuano are the main rivers here. Magahar is a town situated on the banks of the Ami River. Saint Kabirdas died in Magahar, after whom the district is named.

Siddharthnagar, the capital of ancient Sakya Republic, where Lord Buddha was the prince, “Kapilvastu” is located in this district. This district has been named Siddharthnagar after the real name of Lord Buddha “Siddhartha”. Siddharthnagar’s “Kalanamak” rice is famous all over the world for its taste and aroma. Apart from this, ‘Siddharth University Siddharthnagar, Kapilvastu’ is also located in Siddharthnagar, which is known for teaching and Buddhist studies.

Ballia is known for its significant contribution in India’s freedom struggle as Ballia Baghi Ballia (Rebel Ballia). During the Quit India Movement of 1942, Ballia briefly overthrew the district government of British rule and established an independent administration under Chittu Pandey.

With the availability of limestone and coal in the Sonbhadra Hills and the abundance of water in the area, it became an industrial paradise. The country’s largest cement factories, power houses (thermal and hydro), aluminum and chemical units are located here.
